It is almost the end of my exchange to London and I had a great time. The beginning of last week was just a bit boring, so I didn't really got something to tell you, but later that week it just got better and better! On Thursday I went to the city centre with my two classmates Domique and Iris to visit museums. We went to the Geffrye Museum, this is a museum that shows the interiors of houses through about the last seven centuries. It was a small, but interesting museum to see! After that museum, we went to the Natural History Museum. This is a museum with fossils, skeletons of dinosaurs and the evolution of the human. It was a very big museum and very fun and interesting to see. I will surely add some pictures!
On Friday I went to Victoria Coach Station to pick up my boyfriend from the buses from the airport. He arrived at about three o'clock, so we didn't really got time to explore London that day, because we still had to figure out how to get to our Airbnb (renting a room in someones house).
We easily got there. When we got there we were a little surprised about the neighborhood. It was just a bit like the ghetto with high and a little poor looking flats. On the street there where really all types of foreign people. Indian people, Arabic people and Asian people. It was fun to see, but sometimes it was also a bit of a scary place with some scary looking people. luckily I had a 1.95 meter guy walking next to me.
We were sleeping at an Indian family which were very religious, in every corner of the house you could find stories and quotes about the Lord. It was interesting to see, because we aren't religious.
Our room was clean, we had our own cups, plates and cutlery and they provided us with a TV, waterboiler and towels.
We were really happy we had our own cups and plates, because the kitchen we could use, was just disgusting. It looked like it was never cleaned. The people were just nice, but not very social.
After getting our stuff into our bedroom, we went to do some grocery and ate something. We didn't get to sleep too late, because we really wanted to see something from London the next day!
Saturday we went walking through London, it was very windy and sometimes rainy, so the walking wasn't really a pleasure. Despite of that, we saw really nice things. We started at Westminster where the London Eye, The Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben are located.
We walked to St. James Park and saw some really cute squirrels that wanted to be fed. After that we went to Buckingham Palace and Piccadilly Circus. After that, the weather was just to bad and we went to the British museum to watch ancient art from Japan, Egypt and some other countries. It was a very beautiful building to see and very big!
Sunday we went to the city centre a bit later than te day before. First I had to go to my other house in London, to get some clean clothes. After that we went to Camden Town. This is not in the city centre, but just such a nice place to be! It is really different than other places in London. It's very alternative, there are so many styles, like Punk people, vintage people, Hippies, Gothics and Victorian Style people. Not only the people looked alternative but the buildings were too! Almost every building was a piece of art.
We discovered a market with different cultures and styles, you could taste different foods and there were different shops with stuff from other countries or just vintage stuff. I would really recommend to go there when you go to London!
After Camden Town we went to Hyde Park and Speakers Corner in the City Centre, but the weather was bad again so we went into some shops at Oxford Street until we could go to the restaurant where we where going to eat. It was an Moroccan restaurant and it was just so beautiful and the service and food were just so good! It was called Momo's, it is really expensive (we found out later) but it was really worth it!
Monday my boyfriend went back to Holland.
Tuesday me and my other classmates went to a spa and after the spa we went shopping. I could not buy anything, because my suitcase was already twenty kilo's when I departed to London. But I had a nice day!
I didn't went to house too late, because it was Silvia's (my hosts) birthday and I thought it would be nice to have diner with the family and buy her some flowers.
Today I had a normal schoolday again and had another make-up lesson, done by Iris and Domique.
The time passed by so fast, in less than three days I will go back to Holland. Saturday we will depart.
I hope you enjoyed reading this report, maybe I will post another one this week. Please enjoy the added pictures to this report that I will add as soon as possible!
